Beginner Off Season Strength Training

Darryl Nelson

This is a beginner's strength training program.  There is a lot of similarity in the days 1 and 3 sessions as well as the days 2 and 4 sessions.  More repetition and less variation to allow the beginner trainee to learn quickly.  Here I would teach squats from the ground up with a kettlebell or dumbbell.  Then progress to a hands free front squat and eventually a 'clean grip' front squat.  SLDL's are perfored on 2 feet with DB's because this seems to be the easiest way for beginners to learn.

I am looking at more repeats and more bilateral training for a beginner than an advanced athlete.
