Compex Squat

Mike Potenza

The following video shows how the Compex Muscle Stim Unit can be used to combat the effects of Athrogenic Muscle Inhibition (AMI) with a simple bodyweight squat exercise.  This particular strategy would be used for an athlete or patient who is full weight bearing, possesses full ROM, has reduced post-surgical swelling and is now ready for functional reconditioning.  When dealing with a case of AMI understand that the muscular inhibition around the injured joint will force the ligaments, tendons, and fascia into providing stability when it really is not their main role.  A "Co-contraction" or "Coordinated contraction" of the surrounding muscles brings stability to the joint structure.  Conventional exercises may be too painful, so the strength professional or rehab professional needs to find the best exercise strategy to increase strength, stability and get the motor units awake again.  One strategy we implement for our athletes to reverse inhibition post surgery are exercises with the Compex Stim Unit.  Many, many progressions can be used throughout the rehab, reconditioning and strength training process of an injured athlete or patient with the Compex unit.  Once you have identified exercises, get your athlete or patient comfortable with a treatment of high level Electro stimulation.
