Physical Development for a young athlete is critical not only for success in sport, but for injury prevention and health. In my experiences working with all levels of competitive hockey, I have found that developing a young hockey player is a year-round process. There are certain physical qualities based on the athletes stage of physiologic development that need to be structured and focused on during the training program. We as performance professionals can not rush the process and need to create a systematic plan that sets a foundation of physical preparedness and sets the stage for successful physical development as the athlete climbs the ladder of competition.
