PRI Wall Squat w/ R Arm Reach & Balloon
This is a breathing exercise modified from the Postural Restoration Institute that many of our off-season hockey players use to help reposition the rib cage and hips, and reteach a more optimal breathing pattern. We teach our athletes to perform this exercise by:
1) Cycle a breath; upon exhalation posterior pelvic tilt
2) Squat back so that your hips and back are resting on the wall
3) Reach forward with your right arm upon inhalation, without losing back contact
4) Exhale into the balloon; feel your ribs come down and your core engage, as you simultaneously try to pull your sternum back toward the wall.
5) Pause for a few seconds before inhaling again. Repeat for 3 sets of 5 breathing cycles.
