Single Leg Bounce Pass (Hockey Shot)
In the Single Leg Med Ball Bounce Pass, we stand on the ipsilateral leg and push the ball down into the ground and slightly forward. This is a bit contrary to the way we usually do things. We do a lot of contralateral work because we want to reinforce the body's tendencies to work in opposition, but this movement is a variation we use to help build strength for today's snap shots.
With composite stick technology, players are now able to shoot off the off foot (the one closest to the stick blade) relatively easily. Because the stick will flex and then kick, the ability to stiffen the core on the forehand side is essential. This means you can effectively drop the entire bodyweight on the stick and allow the kick to do the work. So with this we want to work on stiffening quickly and and driving the ball down, just as our bottom hand on the stick would.
Progression 1: Ball starts on the hip you will push from.
Progression 2: Ball starts at the belly button, then quickly moves to the hip and is driven down.
Progression 3: (not shown) Ball starts on the far hip, then is quickly pulled over to the near hip and driven down (think backhand, forehand, shot)
