The Truth About Concussion-Like Symptoms
Concussions are an incredibly complex injury that is affecting a huge number of players, from the youth to professional ranks. Over the last couple of years, much has been done in the way of preventing concussions, and in bringing more awareness to the consequences of the injury and appropriate return to play protocols. In the population of players I've had an opportunity to work with, I've noticed that concussions typically co-occur with one or more of a handful of other issues that either get overlooked or simply are viewed as secondary in importance to the concussion-symptoms themselves.
To help bring awareness to these other issues, I recently recorded a presentation titled "The Truth About Concussion-Like Symptoms". As you know, I am a strength and conditioning coach. I am not a physician, nor am I an expert on brain injuries. As such, this information is by no means a replacement for medical advice or diagnosis, nor does it suggest that any of the players whose names or images were presented in the videos had cases that were mishandled in any way, nor that concussions are being mishandled by the medical professionals in hockey. It's simply meant to provide additional information regarding potential causes of related symptoms so players are aware of what other injuries they may need to get checked out by a medical professional.
