Video of the Week- Band Walking Patterns for the Glute Medius
For hip stability, alignment, and control of the knee, the Glute Medius is a muscle that needs to be trained in isolation and then in patterns that mimic skating. The following videos are exercises that our NHL players use during the season and off-season to strengthen one of the most important muscles of the hip, the Glute Medius. We begin our progressions with isolated Glute Medius movements then progress them to skating and walking type postures. For isolation-type exercises, lying positions and a Pilates reformer can effectively work the Glute Medius. Using resistance bands for linear and lateral walking patterns allow for proper resistance and activation of the Glute Mead in the standing position.
